Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the VP of Patient Care Services, CNO, has overall accountability for providing leadership, direction and administration of day-to-day operations associated with direct patient care activities. The role provides strategic leadership, promotes a results oriented environment, ensures that patient and family centered care is of quality and comprehensive. Understands and articulates patient care standards as reflected in federal and state regulation, TJC, the state Nurse Practice Act and organization policies and procedures.

Major responsibilities:

  • Accountable for planning, organizing and directing the overall operations of Nursing Patient Care Services, including Acute Care, Maternity, Emergency Services, Surgical Services, Infection Prevention, Pastoral Care Program, Diabetes Center, Cardiopulmonary Services, Emergency Preparedness, Staff Development and Pharmacy.

  • Define quality metrics with a multidisciplinary approach by identifying the problem/process, measuring success at improving specific areas of patient care, analysis of root cause or variation from quality standards, improving the process with evidence, controlling solutions and sustaining success.

  • Financial acumen by demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of organizational revenue, expense performance and capital planning.

  • Effectively communicates with constituents (patients, families, employees and medical providers). Constructs relationships in a manner that builds mutual trust and respect.

  • Promotes multidiscipline and affiliate collaboration for the implementation of programs, policies and procedures that address patient care needs that support the mission, vision and values of the organization.

  • MS in nursing or related field.

  • RN (with NYS license or qualifies for NYS license)

  • 3-5 years of progressive nursing leadership, 5-7 years preferred

  • Clinical competence

  • Experience working within a system a plus
