Full Time 40 hours Grade 090 OR-Surg Support Nursing/SMHResponsibilities
GENERAL PURPOSE :
Prepares robotics, lasers and other equipment used by Faculty and clinical staff in the operating room suite. Insures equipment is in operating order prior to use, syncs equipment with specified software prior to patient cases and assures proper handling by faculty and staff along with facilitating and monitoring for proper cleaning and maintenance. Serves as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for Certification and training for Faculty and Staff.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Standard and specialized surgical robots, medical lasers, endoscopic video systems, microscopes, image guided surgery systems and other equipment.
Establishes a working relationship through positive communication with staff in the OR, SPD, MPD, Facilities, and Clinical Engineering.
Assures that all equipment is in compliance with hospital standards and within Clinical Engineering inspection schedule.
Assists staff in facilitating patient flow and contributes to keeping the operating room proper orderly and clean to assure a safe working environment.
Directs equipment repairs and schedules routine maintenance and safety checks of medical lasers, image guidance systems, robotic systems, video systems and other service specific technology.
My be utilized to operate specialized equipment during surgical procedures, including, but not limited to, lasers and image guidance systems. May be called in for emergency cases.
Coordinates and assists with OR set up prior to, during and after surgical procedures.
Maintains communication with Charge Nurse and staff nurses regarding equipment needs and schedule changes throughout the day.
Maintains organization of equipment storage rooms and OR equipment inventory, and makes recommendations for timely replacement of equipment approaching end of service life.
Serves as a resource in certifying staff for specific laser credentialing in the operating room.
Serves as a resource to the Nurse Educator to provide educational materials for staff for in-servicing of new equipment.
Serves as a resource, able to troubleshoot technology issues, often during surgical procedures.
Serves as a resource orienting staff to new equipment.
Regularly handles and moves light to heavy equipment in the operating room setting.
Performs other related duties as required.
High School graduate with 1-2 years of relevant Operation Room experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates Degree and working knowledge of medical equipment, computer operations, software integration and medical terminology preferred.
