Summer Intern - Web Developer

POSITION SUMMARY:

Consulting & Data Services – Application Development at the University of Rochester is looking to hire an undergraduate or graduate student with interest in working with Web Application Development over a ten week period from June 5th through August 11th, 2023. This internship will be focused on Implementing Web Applications using the Low-Code / No-Code platform Boomi Flow. This internship will provide the opportunity to suggest use cases for and experiment with AI systems such as ChatGPT within the Higher Education domain. This is a temporary internship opportunity.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This position is being offered as one of a number of positions being coordinated under the umbrella of the University IT Internship Program in the summer of 2023. As a result, while the emphasis will be on individual experiences based on a position description provided, the group will be organized as a starting cohort and meet approximately every two weeks. The emphasis of this cohort experience will be to expose all participants to multiple facets of the Information Technology environment at the University of Rochester. These sessions will combine presentation by IT professionals and group discussion to broaden the learning experience. All students will also be asked to prepare a poster session at the end of the program. This will provide program participants an opportunity to link classroom learning to the practicum, as well as formalize thoughts and service recommendations to the IT organization.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under direction of the project managers and with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative:

  1. Meet with stakeholders and Software Engineers to define requirements and solution design

  2. Develop solutions using the Low-Code / No-Code platform Boomi Flow

  3. Test, Deploy, Monitor, and support solutions through the duration of the internship

  4. Research practical uses within our institution for AI systems such as ChatGPT and Google Bard and prepare a report for UnivIT stakeholders

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Pursuing (or completed) a Bachelor’s degree, and interest in Information Technology.

  2. Strong oral, written, and team communication skills, effective questioning, listening, and analytical skills.

  3. Strong communication skills.

  4. Understanding of Web Development (client-side and server-side) technologies.

  5. Willing to work primarily remote with occasional in office meetings
