Division Chief, Department of Neurology

Division Chiefs are accountable for professional, academic and administrative functions of the Division. The Division Chief must possess a collaborative leadership style, effective communication skills and strong financial acumen.

  • Mentoring of Faculty in Division

  • Recruit, retain, and support the career development of clinicians, researchers and educators in the particular subspecialty area.

  • Contributing to Maintenance of Fiscal and Administrative Responsibility

  • Responsible for overall financial management of Division and financial oversight of divisional accounts, including ledger 5 accounts (research) of divisional faculty.

  • Prepare an annual divisional budget with projected income and projected expenses to be submitted to Chair, Department Administrator, and Senior Financial Person for review, justification, and approval.

  • Promoting and Optimizing the Clinical Mission

  • Work with the Director of Ambulatory Operations and appropriate members of the Ambulatory Operation Committee to optimize clinical operations, which will include implementing evolving standards developed by URMFG..

  • Assist in maintaining positive interactions with hospital, medical faculty group, and medical center/regional partners.

  • Promoting and Optimizing the Research Mission

  • Work with Associate Chairs for research and the Neurology Research Committee to match trainees and faculty with grant opportunities and to help facilitate internal review of grants in pre-submission phase.

  • Identify projects with commercialization potential and encourage faculty to complete invention disclosures and keep current with any developments to protect future patent opportunities.

  • Promoting and Optimizing the Education Mission

  • Support the educational missions of department, including mentoring of fellows, residents, students, other providers, providing lectures and areas of expertise, and assisting with periodic coverage needs in resident clinics.

  • Supporting and mentoring the Fellowship Director (if applicable), including setting expectations, helping the Fellowship Director mentor the Program Coordinator, helping the Fellowship Director mentor the Fellows, and helping the Fellowship Director and Program Coordinator complete administrative tasks and mandates.

QUALIFICATION:

Candidates should have completed an ACGME fellowship in Epilepsy/Neurophysiology, be Board Certified and have had at least 2 years of advanced training experience in the care of Epilepsy patients.

The program offers outstanding opportunities for 1) participation in a multidisciplinary Epilepsy team; 2) pursue research/academic interests; 3) teaching of residents, fellows, and students.

Applicants must have or be eligible for a New York State medical license and pass pre-employment drug testing.
