Responsibilities

Position Description:

Under general guidance and with latitude for exercising independent technical judgment, the Staff Research Analyst (RA) performs programming and evaluation-related activities. Assists the Survey Research Team leader and CLIC project leaders with project deliverables, primarily the planning, management, development and implementation of online surveys and data forms. The RA will collaborate with CLIC teams for: survey development, implementation, outcome evaluation, and data management of qualitative and quantitative results. General RA support to include literature reviews, identifying and incorporating external data sources.

Responsibilities:

Manages data-collection instruments and related data

With minimal supervision and wide latitude for independent judgment, creates and maintains functionality of data-management architecture and reporting strategies in REDCap, Excel, SAS and Access. Applies knowledge of survey design, work-plan goals and evaluation strategies of CLIC to critically evaluate the accuracy of information, and relevance to project goals and milestones. Inputs, updates, and analyzes data for projects and participants regularly assessing for data completeness and accuracy. Organizes data for reports to supervisors and teams as requested. Critically evaluates the validity of the qualitative and quantitative data, recommends next steps to project teams. Identifies and resolves reporting discrepancies. Prepares reports and recommendations based upon analysis of information gathered.

Creates Draft Instruments and Procedures

Assists with technical aspects of survey development and implementation, including searching and compiling relevant scientific literature and materials, and providing relevant information to project teams. Conducts frequent inventories and maintains availability of relevant online data-collection (and related) instruments (e.g., “draft surveys”, SOPs, etc.), initiating new versions as informed by relationships with project teams and other stakeholders, notes taken during project meetings, and ongoing contact by phone, email and face-to-face visits. Meets with project participants to help formulate project goals and determine information gathering methods.

Conducts pre-testing of data-collection instruments

Directs the logistics of questionnaire development during pre-testing phases, synthesizing recommendations from feedback to create new iterations of study questionnaires in REDCap. Prepares and provides informative reports to project teams as requested, including recommendations and interpretations of project data. This may include data cleaning, descriptive, univariate and multivariate statistics. Initiates and maintains contact with project teams regarding progress and needs in person, by phone, and/or electronically. Independently flags and communicates data findings and/or discrepancies in the online database.

Tracks, Analyzes and Reports Responses to Data-Collection Instruments

Compiles research, process and outcome-evaluation data (survey responses), and conducts preliminary analyses of survey data. Tracks needs of project teams. Provides requested instruments, communications, instructions, guidance documents. Troubleshoots to help stakeholders achieve independent data collection. Tracks and reports on participants in research surveys and other data-collection projects. Independently tracks recruitment success in order to confirm recruitment channels are successfully enrolling participants at an expected rate. Maintains data, including routine data entry and updates from project teams. Under the direction and guidance from supervisors, assists with data-analysis programming (e.g., statistical procedures using SAS). Compiles summary reports from data gathered, for queries and report generation.

Survey Recruitment Support

Assists project staff to organize and implement recruitment activities, including calling contacts to identify and meet key decision-makers to establish follow-up strategies and creates wording for recruitment communications. Coordinates logistics including plan for dissemination of email invitations, distribution of data-collection and follow-up strategies, further data distribution and collection. Establishes professional relationships, explaining project goals and arranging for next steps.

Ongoing Project Implementation Support

Distributes and tracks data collection instruments, follow-ups, reminders, and related communications. The RA will be responsible for data coding (qualitative and quantitative), data-management reports, literature reviews, and assistance with other survey, data, evaluation, and project tasks as needed by the Survey Research Team or other CLIC teams. Problem solves with teams/ stakeholders to re-initiate recruitment events (such as mass emails, newsletter announcements), stop unsuccessful strategies, and change strategies as needed to enhance recruitment and success rates.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in health-related or research-related field and some graduate level coursework in that field, one to two years of related work experience involving direct assistance to researchers or health-care interventionists, or a relevant combination of experience, training and education.

Certification in appropriate Human Subjects Protection credentialing (e.g., HIPAA, HSPP credentials) will be required within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Competence required for common Microsoft Office software (primarily Word, Excel) and specialized software (REDCap, statistical software).
  • At least 12 months experience programming SAS, SPSS, “R”, or other statistical software preferred.
  • Capable of learning new processes and technologies quickly.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and collaborating with a team.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and delivering projects in a timely manner.
