The Senior Institutional Research and Assessment (IR&A;) Analyst is the primary staff resource for educational effectiveness and external survey data analysis in Arts, Sciences & Engineering (AS&E;). The Senior IR&A; Analyst reports to the Director of Institutional Research and the Director of Educational Effectiveness. The Senior IR&A; Analyst is responsible for producing and leveraging data available from surveys, business intelligence and other sources, such as senior leadership and departmental staff, to help department chairs enhance academic initiatives and success, as well as make data-driven decisions on enrollments, recruitment, courses, etc. The Senior IR&A; Analyst will be expected to develop an in-depth understanding of outcomes data, and will be responsible for producing intricate reports, sometimes customized to meet specific needs of deans, directors and department chairs (SPSS, Tableau, Excel, MS Office). In addition to outcomes data, the Senior IR&A; Analyst will maintain other areas of institutional research and assessment related to student enrollment, retention and graduation using the data warehouse (Cognos, Tableau) and other resources, including peer data (IPEDS, COFHE, AAUDE, ASEE).
Data Analysis and Visualizations (Cognos & Tableau Development
Synthesize data from a variety of sources, utilizing Cognos, Tableau, COEUS, Survey Monkey, SPSS, Qualtrics, NVivo, and FileMaker. Meet with senior leadership in order to prepare and support reporting for educational effectiveness and institutional effectiveness. Autonomously build and modify multifaceted queries in the student data warehouse. Assess pertinent information in order to develop Tableau dashboards and Cognos reports to analyze trends and improve the quality and consistency of IR reports and ensure data integrity and accuracy, with a focus on building a foundation to make reporting of key metrics more widely available to department chairs, faculty and senior leadership. Test data variables, recommend data warehouse enhancements, and report data discrepancies to the Data Warehouse IT Team. Gather assessment data from internal and external sources (departments, surveys, peer data sets) and organize them into accessible datasets for analysis using Tableau (with syntax), MS Office, SPSS, and other analytical tools. Create and prepare detailed reports for the AS&E; Annual Deans’ Retreat Report and for meetings lead by the Director of institutional Research and the Director of Educational Effectiveness with full influence over reporting structure and content.
Collect and Report Data for External Surveys
Work with department chairs, graduate and undergraduate coordinators, and various senior leadership team members with delegated authority to collect and analyze student enrollment data and faculty and research data as needed, creating complex reports utilizing advanced Cognos coding and syntax in order to complete external surveys, including ASEE Engineering Technology, ASEE salary survey, ASEE retention and time to degree surveys, US News Graduate Engineering survey, COFHE SORT and others.
Student Survey Administration Lead
Collaborate on revising, pilot testing and full implementation of annual COFHE, EBI survey, and internal undergraduate, graduate student and alumni survey instruments
Assessment Technologies and Database Administration and Technical Support
Serve as primary contact for the College faculty and staff for their assessment technology-based needs, and extend workshops and other support as needed College-wide.
Academic Degree Program Assessment
Work with undergraduate and graduate degree program assessment coordinators for annual reporting of student learning assessment data.
Consulting and Collaboration with the Functional College Units
Collaborate with the College units on survey development, assessment data collection, managing data analysis and report preparation.
Ad Hoc Data Reports
Design queries to retrieve data including peer data from multiple internal and external sources and be able to fully utilize these resources. Evaluate the relevancy of information gathered. Design reports to effectively display information, and ensure data are compliant and accurate at all times.
Serve as office lead on projects and/or activities as needed by the Director of Educational Effectiveness and Director of Institutional Research.
Work may also include other duties as assigned by Director of Institutional Research and Director of Educational Effectiveness.
Bachelor's degree required. Master’s degree strongly preferred, with at least 4-5 years of experience in higher education or related data analysis and a background in statistical and/or quantitative analysis and research techniques or other related fields.
Ability to assemble and interpret meaningful data; skill in comprehensive report preparation; anticipating appropriate report format, design, and visuals for target audience; ability to present and communicate information clearly and effectively verbally, in writing and in graphic form; ability to work collaboratively with others; ability to handle multiple priorities and assignments, organize work, make decisions and function independently; and ability to work within any necessary time constraints.
