Oversees accounting and financial reporting for the University’s charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, donor advised funds, agency funds and secondary pool activities. Using knowledge and application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), performs various analyses of financial data in support of the University’s consolidated financial statements. Serves as liaison with University offices of institutional resources, advancement, divisional finance representatives and externally with the custodian bank and NYS auditors.
Manages the accounting operations and cash management for the University’s deferred gift, agency and secondary pool activities. Incumbent is the primary liaison with the external custodial bank and the University Office of Trusts and Estates.
Ensures accurate and timely reporting of functional area within Fundriver. Reviews all new deferred gift agreements to ensure proper accounting under GAAP.
Develops and maintains detailed analysis of various statistical and financial information to be used for financial reporting. Performs analysis and tests to ascertain integrity of accounting data, account balances and timeliness of reporting. Makes day-to-day interpretations and decisions on the accounting treatment of financial transactions. Identifies and researches variances by working with various University and affiliate personnel.
Develops and recommends policies, procedures and process improvements to ensure the accuracy, completeness and effectiveness of accounting and financial information or enhance internal controls.
Prepares the Annual Statement of the Segregated Gift Annuity Fund for filing with NYS and prepares related audit files.
Reviews the Charitable Remainder Trust tax returns and coordinates filings with Federal and State agencies.
Reviews the Donor Advised Fund, Charitable Remainder Trust and Foundation reports for completeness and accuracy.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
3 years of professional accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency with spreadsheets required.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision required.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required.
Financial experience in a university or nonprofit setting preferred.
