Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Senior Director, Technology Services consists of being responsible of the technology infrastructure of the organization which provides IT services such as personal computer, network and servers, storage, database administration, email and Internet access, mobile personal devices connectivity, telephony, and information security including backups, help-desk to support the business in meeting its objectives.

The Senior Director of Technology provides leadership for the functional areas of: data centers, network, internet/intranet services, university central server operation and administration, central server operating system environment, email and directory services technology service monitoring and response, data storage environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish the technical vision and lead all aspects of technological development in support of the plans, objectives, and direction of the CIO and ITL Services leadership team.
  • Consult with departments on their technology plans and needs and establish effective working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Make recommendations and explain technology solutions to senior leadership through presentations and advocacy.
  • Determine financial priorities for technology infrastructure spending.
  • Ensure services are customer centric, clearly defined and documented, and that incident, change and problem management guidelines (as developed) are adhered to.
  • Establish with department managers measurable service objectives and ensure effective unit operation.
  • Analyze and organize department operations, procedures, and workflows.
  • Lead project teams for Medical Center wide technology projects.
  • Develop and implement policies for acquiring cloud services, hardware, and software.
  • Supervise and facilitate the leaders of the Infrastructure teams in their role as a management team as well as their role as individual supervisors.
  • Evaluate job performance of employees and make recommendations for skills development, professional development, hiring, firing, promotions, and salary adjustments.
  • Ensure data and communication systems are able to continue to operate in the event of the full/partial loss of University's data centers, staff and system administrators, or the utilities which power them.
  • Determine, in consultation with University officials, which systems are to be included in the operational recovery plan and within which time frame they are to be recovered.
  • Construct cost-effective, time sensitive recovery strategies and verify they are viable at least annually.
  • Ensure that systems and services are redundant where possible on campus and when external dedicated or cloud services are to be used for recovery.
  • Ensure recovery teams are assigned and each individual understands his/her role in a disaster recovery event.
  • Serve as the primary contact for lT Services efforts on campus-wide technology and communications infrastructure projects including those involving construction projects.
  • Ensure that IT policies and standards are met on infrastructure initiatives.
  • Serve as consultant where appropriate on campus infrastructure initiatives.
  • Participate in relevant university governance, policy, and planning committees and meetings.
  • Oversee and manage vendor relationships for external service providers including negotiating contracts with vendors for technology services and systems.
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; maintaining a safe and secure work environment; developing personal growth opportunities
  • Maintains organization's effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting strategic plans for implementing information technologies
  • Verifies application results by conducting system audits of technologies implemented
  • Preserves assets by implementing disaster recovery and back-up procedures and information security and control structures
  • Recommends information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating organization outcomes; identifying problems: evaluating trends; anticipating requirements
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards
  • Oversees the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development. upgrade, and support of all lSD systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, software applications, and peripherals
  • Provide expertise and support during systems upgrades, installations, conversions and file maintenance
  • Oversee systems development and enhancement and the integration of new systems with existing systems
  • Work with staff to develop strategies and plans to enhance client services, improve user effectiveness, and foster innovation
  • Communicate regularly with executive management and all users of information services and systems
  • Develop the IT staff to meet the changing needs of users. groups and offices; new projects and technologies; and varying staff strengths
  • Develop standard operating procedures and best practices. including providing written protocols and guidance to IT staff and to end-users
  • Ensure the creation and maintenance of all written documentation, including system and user manuals. license agreements, and documentation of modifications and upgrades
  • Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Computer Science or Business Administration, plus 5 years' information systems experience and 2-3 years of supervisory experience or project management, preferably in an academic medical center; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
