Responsibilities
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the designated Supervisor, the Senior Technician oversees and coordinates the workflow of the Surgical Pathology Unit and directs staff in order to meet department TATs. Exercises advanced knowledge, judgment and problem-solving skills. Provides technical supervision of front office and slide room sections and is accountable for directing the professional conduct and technical performance of personnel in the Surgical Pathology office suite.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for training and onboarding all new staff in the office area as well as slide room
Monitors employee’s daily performance for the accurate and timely completion of assigned activities, performing 100 % QA on all tasks
Directs staff as needed to adjust to job activities and work volume
Updates Surgical Pathology Front Office SOP accordingly
Participates in employee evaluations and staff competencies
Monitors efficiency and completion as well as participates in the daily functions of the front office: triage incoming phone calls and answer questions/solve issues accordingly, process additional testing requests, fax reports (throughout the day and EOD), pull slides and blocks for send outs, transcription, triage email (clinical support and bailey road requests), triage fax machine, maintain file for outstanding returns, check-in slide/block returns from reference lab and outside locations, return Highland Hospital slides, open addendums for clerical corrections and additional testing
Serves as backup to other support staff
Greet and direct visitors to the unit and laboratories
Other duties as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS/AUTHORITY:
Reports to: Surgical Pathology Supervisor
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and projects
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with co-workers, customers, and vendors
Optimal computer and organizational skills
Ability to adjust work schedule if needed to meet project timelines
Professional discretion with confidential patient results
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent Communication, word processing and computer skills are essential
Is able to prioritize and maintain focus when responsible for the completion of multiple tasks during one shift
Adherence to all University, Division and Department policies

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
AS and one (1) year laboratory experience preferred, or
Two (2) years Laboratory Science and technical training closely related to this position, or
A combination of formal training and experience equivalent to the above
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in laboratory and familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems, Medical Terminology, Microsoft Office Suite, eRecord
