With general direction and latitude for initiative and judgement, performs routine and non-routine duties requiring advanced secretarial or word processing skills and proficiency for the division. Duties to include telephone triage, insurance verifications, prior authorizations, appointment coordination and scheduling, clinic support, general office duties, and provide coverage to maintain office operations during staff absences.
Obtain authorizations for medications and other testing as required by insurance companies.
Insurance verifications prior to patient appointments and/or procedures
Determine appropriate disposition of incoming patient phone calls, tasking appropriate provider, and scheduling follow up appointments as necessary.
Work multiple work queues on a daily basis and maintain appropriate levels of messages in eRecord baskets. Assist teammates with coverage of in-baskets during vacations and absences. Respond to urgent requests within assigned work queues in a timely matter.
Prepare patient letters as needed.
Schedule procedure and office appointments for patients using electronic scheduling systems.
Scheduling and coordination of scan orders to ensure all necessary lab work, pre-authorizations, and necessary appointments are scheduled prior to booking.
Accurately communicating to patient’s various preparations and other appointments in writing, by telephone, and electronically.
Effectively maintain clinic schedules of multiple providers, consistently monitoring them for opportunities to improve provider’s productivity and increase appointment availability and access for our patients.
Associates degree plus a minimum of 2 years secretarial experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong interpersonal skills with attention to detail. Demonstrated verbal and written communication proficiencies and ability to maintain confidentiality. Experience with Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record applications required.
