Department of Biomedical Engineering
Position: Scientist I (Biological Microscopy Core Facility Manager)
The Department of Biomedical Engineering invites candidates for the position of Scientist with specialization in optical microscopy for the life sciences. The candidate will be in charge of managing a modern optical microscopy facility that features an Andor Dragonfly spinning disc confocal, a specialized light sheet microscope and several epiflouorescence and phase contrast microscopes with advanced capabilities for live cell imaging. The facility is used extensively by a vibrant research community with keen needs for advanced biological imaging. The facility draws major users from the Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Biology on Rochester’s main academic campus and from several departments in the nearby University of Rochester Medical Center. It is anticipated that the core will continue to expand these capabilities, and that the Scientist will play an active part in this growth by maintaining awareness of new technologies and by writing grants, both independently and in collaborations. The Scientist will be responsible for maintaining all operational aspects of the core including its financial management.
The ideal candidate will have a MS or PhD in biology, the biomedical sciences, or biomedical engineering, and will have a strong working knowledge of optical microscopy for the life scienses. Individuals with expertise in the optical sciences but an interest in biological applications are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be a scientific staff member in the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department but work collaboratively with researchers and administrators throughout the university.
The University of Rochester, an Equal Opportunity Employer, has a strong commitment to diversity and actively encourages applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in higher education.
