GENERAL PURPOSE:Under the general direction of the Facilities Safety and Compliance Manager, the Safety and Compliance Coordinator assists with the daily administration with emphasis on the functional responsibilities of the program. The Coordinator will work closely with Facilities Department staff to ensure compliance with regulatory standards from the Joint Commission, (TJC) NYSDOH, EPA, OSHA and other agencies, while supporting the applicable policies and procedures of the URMC, works closely with the Facilities Safety and Compliance Manager to maintain the Electronic Statement of Conditions (eSOC) while addressing a variety of areas in facilities safety compliance in collaboration with others. Supports the Facilities Safety and Compliance Manager in all aspects of this position as required. Remains up to date on all regulatory standards applicable to facilities safety and compliance.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Safety and Compliance Manager in representing the Facilities Department interests with Environmental Health and Safety (EH& S) and other disciplines to complete weekly facility safety audits of patient care occupancies, and mechanical spaces in non-patient care areas, to include Article 28 off sites. Inspections are used to identify and correct facility discrepancies to maintain compliance with TJC, NYSDPH, OSHA, EPA and other regulatory agencies. Generates work orders for corrective action and follows through to ensure completion. Conducts other specialized facility inspections as required.

  • Maintains oversight and supports the Facilities Department to ensure required safety training of staff is being met, maintains centralized records as required, and conducts training audits on a periodic basis. Assists the Safety and Compliance Manager with safety policy review and revision as required.

  • Works in conjunction with the Safety and Compliance Manager as well as applicable Facilities Managers to manage the cleanliness of all mechanical spaces, outside grounds and rooftops to ensure safety and life safety codes are being maintained.

  • Participates as requested in coordination with Safety and Compliance Manager in Project Coordination, walkthroughs of construction and renovation projects, training and turn over with a focus on patient and employee safety. Heads up an effort working with a multi-disciplinary team to conduct risk and safety assessments of construction and renovation projects in patient care occupancies.

  • Works under the direction of the Facilities Compliance and Safety Manager to maintain the Electronic Statement of Conditions (e-SOC) and ensure continuous compliance with the applicable sections of the Life Safety and Environment of Care Chapter from TJC.

  • Assists the Facilities Safety and Compliance Manager in the facilitation of a department-based employee safety committee to review safety concerns, develop and follow through on appropriate corrective action to ensure a safe working environment. Investigates work place accidents and near misses, identifies root causes and follows through on corrective action plans to mitigate risk. Conducts Job Hazard Assessments (JHA).

  • Maintains the most current information and training of regulatory standards which apply to the healthcare facilities field in order to be effective in operations and goals of position.

  • Acts in the capacity of a liaison to the Facilities Department for obtaining Personal Protective Equipment, (PPE) training, and proper use as required.

  • Completes other tasks as required and assigned through the Facilities Safety and Compliance Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's degree in related field required; Bachelor's degree in a relevant safety or facilities field preferred. 1-2 years of experience required. Maintenance of a clean, valid NYS driver's license required.
