University of Rochester Research Asst Professor in Rochester, New York
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Research Assistant Professor to conduct research on Deaf maternal and child health in the global context. The individual in this position will obtain grants and contracts, will develop a program of research in Deaf maternal and child health in the global context, will mentor residents, fellows, post-docs, and graduate students, and will serve as a resource to the University's academic community on issues relating to Deaf maternal and child health. Responsibilities include design, implementation, and evaluation of research and Deaf global health projects requiring substantial judgment and experience, including assessing Deaf MCH research needs, promoting positive clinical practice with the Deaf community, and liaising with stakeholders around development and evaluation of interventions for the Deaf maternal and child population. While considerable breadth and scope in leadership in this role is required, the Research Assistant Professor will work closely with a large and diverse team of professionals both within and outside of the University in achieving project goals.
This position requires a PhD degree in a social science or health field with formal coursework in statistics, quantitative methods, public health, and other related fields.
The position requires at least three years of post-doctoral academic experience conducting mixed methods research with Deaf populations
Demonstrated experience in analyzing large datasets of relevance to Deaf health
Prior experience supervising students (hearing or Deaf)
Demonstrated evidence of the following specific skills are required: federal (NIH, CDC, NSF) grantwriting; publication in peer-reviewed journals of relevance in Maternal and Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology, or Pediatrics; demonstrated partnerships with clinicians; fluency in American Sign Language; experience leading research projects.
The following skills and experience are desirable: exposure to other forms of sign language, international travel experience, and clinic experience working with the Deaf community. Clinical credentials in addition to a PhD are preferred.
Substantial experience in qualitative, quantitative, and large data set experience required.
