Position Summary:

Using excellent customer service skills and exercising thorough knowledge of hospital policies and procedures as they relate to registration process. Screens, registers and processes all incoming patients; obtains all demographic and financial data; creates Flowcast visits for Lab, Blood donors, OPRA and other OP patients; ensures AVS in eRecord; interacts with physician's offices if necessary; completes the patient mailings for all SDA/SD23/ ACU/CATH and updates all incoming mail; interviews all Direct admissions to obtain signature on 660; assists with interviewing patients on units to obtain accurate demographic information, insurance, and to obtain signatures on SMH 660 form; coordinates with bed management and units on all direct admissions ensuring that all information is verified and sent to unit with appropriate paperwork; accountable for meeting department standards for completion and QA of demographic verification on day to day bases by utilizing Hold Bill work lists; Reviews Medicare for MSP questions and validation.


Registration Function/Customer Interaction- Screens patient to identify status. Interviews patients and collects all demographic and financial information in an efficient, customer oriented manner. Ensures all registration information is current and accurate in Flowcast. Obtains Notice of Privacy, RHIO and 660 consent form signatures when indicated. Provides patients with basic answers to questions pertaining to insurance or refers to Financial Counseling for appropriate follow-up. Completes necessary insurance forms including obtaining required signatures, exercising knowledge of insurance types and assures that all pertinent information is correct and accurately documented. Ensures all levels of insurance are listed and follow-up questions are answered in Flowcast. Responsible for mailing Preadmission packets for scheduled admissions daily. Mails SMH 660 forms on all discharged patients. Opens/organizes and updates Outpatient and Inpatient mail for Financial Counseling. Conducts patient interviews for all Direct Admissions in addition to assisting Financial Counseling in interviewing patients on units when needed. Updates Flowcast with current and accurate information. Assists patients with directions to various departments as well as helps problem solve when patients are unclear of where they need to report. Triages phone calls for both internal and external customers, provides definitive answers or transfers to appropriate areas for follow up.

Accountable for meeting department standards for completion and QA of demographic verification on day to day bases by utilizing Hold Bill work lists. Reviews Medicare for MSP questions and validation.

Requisition/Referral Management-Accesses the electronic Lab requisition in eRecord for valid orders and for appropriate follow-up if requisition is not on file. Maintains paper requisitions for non-SMH providers. Retrieves 975 referral forms from PICIS for creation of OPRA visits when necessary.

Quality-Monitors the waiting room to ensure patients are seen in a timely manner.

Coordinates and requests follow-up, repetitive or corrective work. Follows procedures to ensure accurate data is captured and that IDPP A guidelines are met.


AAS in related discipline with 3 years of related (admitting/registration/patient accounts/insurance) experience, preferably in a hospital setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires high degree of professionalism and motivation with excellent communication and customer service skills; strong computer skills and ability to type 25 words per minute.
