Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma

  • Work experience in Emergency Response or 1 st Responder fields

  • Required skills: Ability to read and write. Typing skills - Fast and accurate keyboard data entry. Critical decision making in emergency situations. Multitasking skills, processing and acting on multiple informational inputs. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively in all non-stress and stress situations. Able to think independently while working as a member of a team.

Position Summary

Radio/Tele-communicator within a Public Safety Department Communication Center which operates as an emergency operations center for the University Of Rochester. Dispatchers support the Communication Center as phone call takers, as radio operators for multiple channels, as alarm station operators and as CCTV program operators. Dispatchers continually enter and update data in many computerized programs, including a Computer Aided Dispatching program. Dispatchers must be able to quickly process multiple informational inputs and act on them in accordance with established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operate University radio frequencies for University Public Safety, coordinating responses and facilitating requests for assistance from University Officers, local law enforcement and University officials. Monitor local law enforcement radio frequencies.

  • Answer and make a variety of phone calls ranging from routine responses, back up support, to emergency assistance and notifications to internal and external entities. Dispatchers assist callers with connecting with the correct Public Safety personnel or referring to appropriate department or entity to assist them.

  • Monitor CCTV cameras assisting on calls in progress. Proactively monitoring watching for abnormal conditions needing further investigation.

  • Process fire and burglary alarms throughout the University properties, deploying officers and make notifications as appropriate to local law enforcement and responsible University officials.

  • Coordinate officer personnel responses to calls for service and alarms. Utilizing computer aided dispatching programs, entering and updating information in CAD, and informational briefing logs.

  • Continually communicates with Officers and Officer-in-Charge throughout the shift.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 20.36 - $ 26.20 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
