Responsibilities
Position Summary:
We are currently recruiting an apheresis nurse to work at the Blood Bank donor room at Strong Memorial Hospital. This is a time as required (TAR) position supported by a Department of Defense (DOD) grant. The main responsibility of this nurse is collection of convalescent plasma via apheresis instruments from recovered COVID-19 patients. The person will report to the Medical Director of the DOD grant.
Qualifications:
Registered nurse with a NY license privileges.
Recent clinical experience of at least 3 years.
Prior experience with apheresis instrumentations and plasma collection procedures.
Familiar with NYSDOH apheresis and plasma collection requirements.
Demonstrated good interpersonal communication skills, effective decision making, excellent written and verbal communications, and effective customer service skills.
Solid computer and data management skills.
Duties:
Validate apheresis machines
Perform all quality control related requirements and maintain records
Coordinates activities of the convalescent plasma collection procedures including:
Contact possible plasma donor
Schedule time to discuss collection procedures with the plasma donor
Consent donors for plasma collection and arrange laboratory testing
Arrange COVID-19, antibody titer, and ABO testing
Arrange plasma collection with donors (twice per week)
Label plasma units and arrange quarantine storage
Maintain records of collected plasma and donors data
Arrange infectious testing of the collected plasma and manage invoice payment
Arrange donor reimbursement
Follow up with any donor adverse events and maintain all required medical records
Ensure reporting of adverse donation events to regulatory agencies are required.
Maintain all necessary study and IRB reports and records 5%. Coordinate workload with our donor room staff
Comply with blood bank safety procedures and QA requirements
