Position Summary:

Full time position in Department of Medicine Infectious Diseases using pediatric and adult population cohorts to participate in ongoing research studies in the Vaccine Research Unit.

Position requires the ability to work independently, strong interpersonal skills in communicating with adults, pediatric subjects and their families, their health care providers , and hospital staff at Strong and RGH, and a willingness to develop the logistics of subject enrollment, persistence and flexibility in assuring on-going subject cooperation and good data collection skills. Computer skills preferred. Recent experience working with infants and young children recommended. Competence with the physical assessment and phlebotomy in adults and children of all ages.


Recruitment of subjects:

  • Identification of subject pool, eligibility screening in clinic settings and/or phone screens.

  • Chart Review

  • Obtain informed consent and enroll

Study Visit Assessments:

  • Perform physical assessment, research related procedures-including those that require sterile technique (blood draws, nasal washes, swabs); observes, measures, records, and reports indicators of patient health status; administer study related vaccines and medications as directed; perform more specialized tasks such as pediatric blood draws and ECG; evaluates subjects for local or systemic reactions to study medication or vaccine

Study Coordination:

  • Conducts interviews with subjects and families as required by protocol.

  • Phone Triage as it related to research

Research Team Collaboration:

  • Attend team meetings and monthly research group meetings.

  • Assist with data entry, filing, mailings, source document development and compiling study summary data as needed

  • Work with representatives from research sponsors, RSRB, WIRB and other regulatory agencies

  • Maintaining quality assurance and quality control

Data Collection other duties:

  • Enrollment and completion of source documents, Enters data into electronic data bases

  • Inventories supplies, restocks exam rooms and organizes supplies and charts for each individual protocol

  • QA of charts


Minimum qualification 5 years experience includes current RN license or combination of education and work experience. Experience with phlebotomy preferred, (pediatric phlebotomy a plus).

Ages of population served: Infant to 80
