This position will work with team members to create a project timeline, set goals and determine what elements are needed to complete internal efforts, small shirt size projects and security related POCs. They will then oversee all of the moving parts of these efforts to ensure that it stays on schedule. Must be adept at multitasking, as they are generally required to perform a wide variety of tasks on a daily basis.

Primary goals of the position are to:

  • Monitor assigned projects, working with security teams to understand project health, risks, and issues

  • Translate project requests into scope and detailed project plans with tasks, timelines, milestones, and deliverables for project team members

  • Manage assigned projects.

  • Establish strong partnerships with operational leaders and business unit subject matter experts

  • Cultivate effective communication and coordination across constituents for successful completion of each project milestone

  • Drive results from all project team members through clear responsibility / accountability and scope expectations



  • Using the IT Project Methodology, determines scope of the problem/project, through collaboration with the executive project sponsor, key stakeholders, users, and technical/business analysts

  • Gathers input from team members on required tasks and translates into a project plan with activities, dependencies, dates and timeframes, resource requirements, milestones and deliverables.

  • Collaborates with other on the team and Resource Managers to assign appropriate resources to the project.

  • Collaborates with Architecture, Security, and technical teams to obtain necessary approvals.


  • Monitors progress of project activities and insures all critical implementation criteria are met and provides status reports to Steering, Sponsor, Project and governance committees. (10%)

  • Utilizes a variety of project management methodologies as appropriate to the project, including Predictive, Agile/Adaptive, and Hybrid approaches. (10%)_

  • Manages project scope and timeline, using appropriate Sponsor bodies and Project Office leadership direction. (10%)

  • Identifies, tracks, and manages risks and mitigation plans within assigned projects, escalating as appropriate. (10%)

  • Identifies, tracks, and manages issues to resolution within assigned projects, escalating as appropriate. (10%)


  • Coordinates as needed with Business Analysts, IT Resource Managers & Team Leads, others on the Project Management team, and Project Directors to ensure project team follows department processes for quality assurance, migrations and promotions, end-user acceptance/validation, training, and support.

  • Facilitates project meetings using effective meeting techniques for objectives, agendas, participants, and meeting minutes.

  • Develop/maintain reporting suitable for Sr. Leadership (both IT and Business) to communicate project status.

  • Conducts post-project “lessons learned” sessions to identify successful project elements and areas for future improvement.


  • Keeps current with business and strategic goals.

  • Understands other University service providers.

  • Stays apprised of team’s roles, processes, tools, and architecture to better understand how the team works together to meet users' needs.

  • Attends webinars, reads case studies and white papers, and participates in other free or low-cost opportunities to further refine skills and stay apprised on project management topics.

  • Communicates and educates at the user’s level, in the context of the user’s business environment.

  • Builds and maintains internal departmental relationships.

  • Coaches and maintains a positive influence on project team members for accountability and action at all times.

  • Meets established deadlines and motivates project team members to do the same.

  • Maintains flexibility and professionalism while managing competing priorities.


  • Participates effectively as a "Team Member".

  • Makes presentations to project management team members and IT staff on work-related issues.

  • Serves on committees and attends meetings as requested.

  • Follows all administrative standards (such as timely time sheet preparations, completing time away requests, completing annual mandatory educational requirements, etc.). Adheres and subscribes to University Values.

Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Business Administration, Information Technology, or other related field required

  • 4-5 years of related experience, preferably 2-3 years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • 5-7 years’ experience in project management or an equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • Excellent leadership, communication (written and verbal), presentation, analytical and problem solving skills required

  • Extensive computer literacy to include expertise in Microsoft Project, Teams and Powerpoint. ServiceNow, JIRA or Project Portfolio Management (PPM) software experience a plus preferred

  • Exhibits managerial courage. Willing to take calculated risks and to speak up for the best interests of the project team preferred

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile certification (ACP, DA, or CSM) preferred
