Job Description

The Simon Business School at the University of Rochester is looking for a Project Manager to support brand, digital and marketing related projects. This person will provide project support, develop strategic project plans, and help identify process improvements across the Marketing organization. The successful candidate is defined by their track-record and passion for applying industry-proven and emergent approaches that empower people to deliver customer value and support revenue goals. The marketing project manager will be responsible for the creation, organization, execution and completion of large-scale projects, including managing employees’ workloads, setting deadlines, communicating with administrators and faculty about the state of the project, ensuring projects stay on track and on budget, and adjusting if necessary to meet new requirements. The Project Manager will report to the Chief Marketing Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Planning, Management and Communication (50%)

  • Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones, adhering to deadlines and allocating resources

  • Identifying, managing and communicating about potential risks and liabilities

  • Assisting in the definition of project scope and goals

  • Serving as a point of contact for the marketing team when multiple individuals are assigned to the same project

  • Provide project updates to leadership about strategy, adjustments, and progress

  • Confers with project staff to track performance against planned project performance, analyzes variances and collaborates with project team to ensure all customer needs are met while maintaining control of the project

  • Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution

  • Measure project performance to identify areas for improvement

  • Institutes change procedures, as required

  • Organize project teams by conducting regular meetings with agenda, minutes and action items

  • Manage multiple projects in a dynamic, high-paced environment

  • Status reporting

  • Clarify and communicate project objectives and success criteria

    Budget Management (25%)

  • Use formal processes and tools to manage resources, budgets, risks, and changes; maintain consistent communication of project changes.

    Vendor Management (20%)

  • Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables

    Other (5%)

  • Additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and necessary skills

  • 3-5 years of project management and related experience, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) required

  • Understanding of the Project Management Institute (PMI) framework

  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively

  • Excellent communication skills, including effective presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with clients and colleagues while remaining calm and courteous under pressure.

  • Experience seeing projects through the full life cycle

  • Knowledge of various project management methodologies (e.g., agile/scrum)

  • Cost and risk management skills

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • Ability to make important decisions under pressure

  • Resourceful with excellent problem-solving skills

  • Ability to delegate effectively

  • Time management skills
