Position Summary

Serves as Time as reported (TAR) research assistant for the research lab of Dr. Michelle Janelsins which focuses on understanding the neurobiologic underpinnings of cognitive decline due to chemotherapy and other cancer treatments, identifying risk factors of cognitive decline and related problems in patients, as well as designing innovative clinical trials to alleviate cognitive decline and related problems.

This research assistant will work under indirect supervision in the Cancer Control and Psychoneuroimmunology Laboratory (CCPL), Division of Supportive Care in Cancer, Department of Surgery and the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) Research Base. This research assistant will assist in lab on ongoing human biomarker profiling projects, biospecimen management, and gain an understanding of supportive care clinical trials management.

A flexible schedule is required. The candidate will need to maintain strict adherence to federal HIPAA policies and departmental data quality assurance and quality control standards. Requires collaboration with investigators, health project coordinators, other research personnel and lab technicians.


  1. Performs Luminex and ELISA assays and data analysis on human samples and performs general lab maintenance

  2. Performs secondary data analysis on biomarker expression with appropriate statistical testing

  3. Works with on-site study coordinators, CCPL staff to create study blood draw kits and assist with blood processing and biobanking efforts, as needed

  • A high school degree with some college in data science, statistics. Some background in the biological sciences strongly preferred required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. The job will be performed during daytime hours, but hours can be flexible required.

  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills, including written communication required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

  • Strong Interpersonal Skills required.

  • Meticulous Record Keeping for Data Management required.

  • General laboratory skills required.

  • Excellent Communication Skills required.

  • Strong Problem Solving, Solution Oriented and Prioritizing Skills required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $16.50 - $21.45 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
