Director of Research – Division of Palliative Care

The University of Rochester Medical Center’s Division of Palliative Care is conducting a national search for a Director of Research to build a robust interdisciplinary program of study that spans the Division and links it to other Departments and centers of academic excellence across the University. This position will be uniquely defined by the candidate’s expertise and interests.

Established by Dr. Timothy Quill in 2001, our Palliative Care Program was the first academic one to earn The Joint Commission’s Advanced Certification in Palliative Care in 2011, in honor of its highest quality clinical consultation, comprehensive educational programs, and innovative research. We enjoy a longstanding research collaborative which is interdivisional (including the divisions of Palliative Care, Oncology, and Nephrology) and crosses departmental and School lines (including Neurology, Psychiatry, Public Health Sciences, and the School of Nursing). Our brand new Palliative Care Research Fellowship will be overseen by the Director of Research. The Department of Medicine supports expansion of our research program, including the recruitment of additional faculty. In addition to our faculty expertise, we provide access to extensive research resources through their ongoing studies, existing data sets for secondary analysis, and the assets of the UR Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.

The individual filling this position will be a mid-career to senior level PhD, MD or MD/PhD with a demonstrated commitment to a research career with a palliative care focus. She or he will have a track record of research publications, extramural funding, and successful mentorship of early career scholars. Funds to recruit additional investigators to the Division will be available. Academic rank, primary departmental affiliation, and clinical, teaching, or other duties in addition to the Research Director position may vary on the basis of the candidate’s interests and training.
