The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester (URMC) School of Medicine & Dentistry, in Rochester, NY, is currently recruiting for a Molecular Genetics pathologist. The successful applicant must be boarded by the American Board of Pathology and be eligible for a medical license in the State of New York. The anticipated rank is open, commensurate with experience. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join a rapidly growing program. Expertise in microarray and cytogenetics, while not required, would be desirable.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop or collaborate in a program of applied, translational, or basic research. There will be ample protected academic time and support will be appropriate to ensure success of the program. Candidates with a wide range of academic interests will be considered. There are excellent opportunities for collaborative work in a large range of fields, including participation in established collaborations with oncology and pediatrics.

The Department provides a very wide range of services, currently accessioning over 65,000 surgical/biopsy cases per year. Four clinical laboratory geneticists support a complete menu of genetic assays including 1600 karyotypes, 700 SNP/CGH arrays, >5000 FISH assays, and a wide range of molecular and conventional as well as next-gen sequencing based assays.

The Medical Center has a highly collegial environment with many opportunities for collaborative research and for the development of clinical initiatives through interactions with Medical Center faculty in the Cancer Center and other Centers with interests in cancer biology, immunology and genetics. Opportunities for teaching are ample at the medical student, resident, and fellow levels.
