Responsibilities

General Summary:

Analyzes and improves processes across Utilities & Energy Management including preventative maintenance and operations. Works with Operations and Maintenance Managers to continuously improve plant operations and maintenance including optimizing the life cycle of equipment and reducing waste. Manages the University energy metering systems and energy management information systems to ensure proper data collection, accurate billing, and access to data for academic engagement and collaboration projects. Develop system operational models and analyzes energy data in order to suggest and implement conservation opportunities.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Analyze and improve the preventative maintenance process. Create reporting for continual monitoring of processes. Develop and assist others in the creation of standard work documents for preventative maintenance tasks. Create and verify life cycle models of plant equipment in order to optimize equipment life cycle. Make recommendations to upgrade, replace, or extend the life of equipment based on financial, energy, and safety considerations. Assist Operations and Maintenance teams in specifying, ordering, and procuring materials and equipment.

  • Plan, develop, and manage the University energy metering systems. Direct the commissioning of energy meters. Maintain and manage the OSIsoft PI data acquisition and analysis platform. Investigate meter discrepancies to determine the root cause of failures, provide recommendations, and oversight of corrective actions in order to verify meter functionality and maintain accurate billing.

  • Investigate and implement ways to reduce waste associated with time, inventory, motion, over processing, over production, defects, and skillset. Manage and conduct process improvement projects to reduce waste in plant operations, maintenance activities, and system functionality. Engage stakeholders across UEM in order to sustain and continuously improve the process of waste reduction and elimination.

  • Conduct systems analysis of plant operations to identify and implement engineering and administrative controls to improve reliability and safety.

  • Work collaboratively with others in the planning of system outages to reduce operational and safety risks. Develop and assist others in the creation of outage procedure documents to ensure effective communication to increase the likelihood of a successful outcome.

  • Work with the Operations and Maintenance Managers to define, document, and continuously improve plant operation and maintenance procedures. Assist in creating, improving, and implementing a training systems for operation and maintenance.

  • Analyze plant, system, and building energy data to make recommendations to improve operations and efficiency. Create and modify models of plant operations to improve operational performance, energy usage, financials, and sustainability. Identify, plan, execute, and verify energy conservation opportunities and projects.

  • Maintain and develop the University energy management information system. Develop dashboards and reports to communicate energy information to University stakeholders.

  • Provide support for academic collaboration and engagement projects. Assist faculty and students in collecting relevant UEM data for projects.

    Educational requirements:

    A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.

    Experience:

    Knowledge of building, facility, and utility operations and maintenance including electrical systems, building control systems, and energy metering highly recommended. Knowledge and experience in statistics, programming, and data analysis. Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Microsoft Visio, eSight Energy, and OSIsoft PI data historian highly desirable. Proven good communications skills, both verbal and written. Great organizational skills. Ability to lead teams comprised of experienced people with diverse technical background. Ability to get EIT within one year and eventually PE. Experience with the University of Rochester is preferred.
