Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The clinic athletic trainer, under the direction of the provider or designee is accountable for provision of direct care to assigned patients. The athletic trainer contributes to unit activities and supports enhancement of the care delivery system at the unit level. The clinic athletic trainer works as a team member and assists other staff members with implementing patient care.

Minimum Qualifications and Position Expectations

  • Maintains current New York State Licensure as an ATC

  • Current CPR BLS Certification

  • Annual Health Update is complete

  • Attendance and Punctuality are at or above acceptable levels

  • Annual University Education is complete

  • Compliant with all annual competency updates and requirements

  • Utilizes resources and tools to promote safe patient handling

  • Utilizes appropriate hand-off tools to ensure comprehensive communication

  • supporting the transfer of care

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information and protects patient/family

  • privacy

  • Maintains Annual CAS Level requirements

  • Self-evaluation is used as a basis for development of professional goals

  • Resume required components: Education, Technical Certifications, Specialty

Clinical Practice

  • Application of casts and splints

  • Removal of suture and staples

  • Dispense and perform brace fitting for patients

  • Perform rooming and care of the Orthopaedic patients (VS, eRecord screening, room turnover, provider procedure support)

  • Accurate and timely documentation in the EMR

  • Assumes responsibility of care for assigned patients under the direction of the MD/PA/NP.

  • Participates in patient education as outlined in the plan of care

  • Assists in the identification of patient and family needs; Participates in plan of care, implements appropriate nursing interventions, and contributes to patient/family education through collection of data, interdisciplinary team collaboration, documentation, and excellent communication

  • Identifies basic age specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families; Clearly communicates these needs to appropriate members of the care team; Recognizes obvious changes in patient status seeking appropriate resources to address concerns

  • Consistently works to promote safe and effective patient care
