University of Rochester On-Call Sign Language Interpreter in Rochester, New York
Time as Reported Grade 006 Interpreter Services
The On-Call/TAR Deaf Interpreter provides interpreting services for all clinical and professional University of Rochester Medical Center staff, patients and family members/significant others who are with the patient. All On-Call staff must fulfill at least one overnight on-call Saturday or Sunday of each quarter. The minimum monthly work requirements as outlined below.
- One full shift (5pm-8am)
- One evening shift (5-10pm) and one overnight shift (10p-8am)
- One evening shift (5-10pm) and one 6-hour weekend shift
- Two weekend shifts (6 hours each)
In addition, the interpreter will be required to hold one 12-hour back up shift for on-call as well. Details regarding this obligation and all other scheduling and Preference Sheet submissions are distributed through management.
When the minimum On-Call requirement is met, TAR hours (scheduled work) may be taken as per hospital needs and at the discretion of the interpreter and scheduler. There is no requirement for the On-Call interpreter to work a minimum number of TAR hours.
Two years of post-high school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification by The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), BEI, or similar National Certification and adherence to tenets within the Code of Professional Conduct. Minimum of 3 years general interpreting experience and experience interpreting in a health care setting is preferred. Bachelor degree strongly preferred.
