Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Assists the Senior Industrial Hygienist in planning and directing a University-wide program for the prevention of exposure of staff, students, patients and visitors to hazardous physical, chemical, or biological agents other than ionizing radiation.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages and oversees the University’s Bloodborne Pathogens Program

  • Monitors exposures to hazardous agents

  • Design and Construction Safety

  • Manages all exposure monitoring Equipment

  • Reviews corrective actions taken after employee injuries/incidents

  • Responsible for organizing, monitoring, and maintenance of SMH Safety Policies

  • Creates and manages and compliant safety policy, programs, and guidelines

  • Creates and provides safety training presentations to clinical staff and other University personnel

  • Participates on University’s Spill Team and other emergency response teams as part of EH&S may be called in at any time 24/7 as needed.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with 2-4 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to become a Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

  • Preferred candidate will have minimum 3-5 years of related experience in an academic, industrial or hospital environment performing hazard assessments, safety inspection, or managing safety programs.

  • Maintain Professional Development and Certifications (if applicable)

  • Ability to work independently or in team environment

  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

  • Strong organizational skills and excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Able to interact on a professional level with the University community, including faculty, staff, Principal Investigators and medical professionals

  • Must have own transportation with current registration and valid driver’s license.

  • Has the ability to wear respiratory protection

  • Be available for emergency response as part of EH&S Spill Team
