Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Provides patient care in collaboration with a member of medical staff. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works in a collaborative relationship with a physician provider to oversee the care delivered to a patient population or program of services. The NP is responsible for direct patient care, documentation of care delivered, adherence to hospital and nursing policies, procedures and practice standards, education of patients and staff, assurance of service excellence, completion of state and hospital-required reviews of practice, and participation in performance improvement and other activities as required.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides patient care consistent with the scope of privileges defined by FLOHS, written practice protocols, applicable state and federal laws/regulations, and in collaboration with FLOHS health team members. Diagnoses, evaluates, and manages work¿related conditions (injuries, illnesses). Occasionally job duties as listed in here may be performed at off¿ site clinics which may be scheduled during or outside regular hours of operation.

  2. Completes daily patient evaluations and assessments per NYS DOH OHCN and NYS Workers’ Compensation protocols. Documents pertinent elements in electronic patient records. Writes medication and other medical orders.

  3. Obtains medical, work, and social histories and performs medical examinations.

  4. Instructs and counsels patients in collaboration with other health team members (Occupational Health physician, social worker, industrial hygienist).

  5. Performs routine Occupational Health procedures (venipuncture, urine collection, immunizations, audiogram, spirometry) per protocol and established standards. Provides clinical supervision to FLOHS nurse.

  6. Provides education to individuals and groups on occupational hazards and risks for occupational injury and illness prevention and wellness promotion.

  7. Participates in quality assurance (QA/QI) activities.

  8. Attends NYS Occupational Health Clinic Network meetings at least once per calendar year (usually in Albany, NY). Professional development: maintains licensure as a registered professional nurse and certification as a nurse practitioner from the NYS Department of Education; maintains certification as a nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Association including documentation of a minimum of 100 CEU hours/5 years for re¿certification; participates in education sessions, grand rounds, professional conferences, web¿based and/or in¿person.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program required

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Previous experience in occupational health nursing preferred.

  • Clinical competence for a mix of well, acute and chronic patients.

  • NP Certification, NYS license, DEA license required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $92,997 - $139,506 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
