GENERAL PURPOSE:
Functions within the University community as an interdependent member of the health care team with responsibilities in the areas of practice, education, administration, and research.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides primary health care to U of R students, employees, members of the University community, and other organizations who contract with UHS for primary care. Diagnoses, evaluates, and manages illness; counsels individuals and families/groups; provides health education to individuals and groups for illness prevention and wellness promotion. Performs comprehensive physical examinations including gynecological examinations and consults with or refers patients to other health team members or community resources as appropriate. On-call as needed.
Participates in the education of graduate nursing students, including clinical supervision and evaluation, involvement in classroom activities, and/or providing curricular input as appropriate.
Functions as a consultant for and participates in the development and implementation of health education programming for the University community.
Participates in UHS-initiated administrative projects which contribute to quality health care including, but not limited to, disability reviews, pre-employment physicals, organizing resources, etc.
Participates in needs assessment, planning and/or implementing of continuing education activities for professional and support staff.
Participates in needs assessment and research/quality improvement studies to improve patient care and contribute to the scientific base of nursing and health care practice; shares research efforts with the health care community through presentations and publications.
Participates in the hiring process and in establishing policy as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree from an NLN accredited school of nursing with a Nurse Practitioner focus of adult, adolescent, or family health, primary care or obstetrics/gynecology, and three years relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Current New York State RN license and NYS Nurse Practitioner certification. Nurse Practitioner certification from the appropriate professional certifying body or the qualifications to apply for this upon employment.
