Provides comprehensive mental health services to children, adolescents and families on an acute inpatient psychiatric unit. Position entails group, individual, and family therapy in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
Under general direction and with considerable latitude for independent judgment, conducts group therapy for children & adolescents on an acute inpatient unit. The therapist will have some flexibility in types of group provided, based on their own areas of interest and expertise.
Serves as a primary therapist to patients on the Rapid Stabilization Pathway, providing an intensive therapeutic intervention to patients and families in a 3-4 day admission. This may include beginning evaluation / treatment with patients while they are still in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program. Participates collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide coordinated care.
Provides direct clinical services to assigned patients, including individual, family and/or group therapy and crisis intervention.
Documents treatment in patients’ electronic medical record in compliance with Program, Department and Hospital regulations. Meets minimum target for clinical productivity set by service director.
Collaborates with other professionals both internal and external throughout patient care activities. Mobilizes family and natural support networks when clinically indicated.
Assesses successful completion of therapeutic goals and coordinates to plan discharges accordingly.
Subscribes to the Departmental goals of creating an equitable and culturally competent environment by treating patients, families, and co-workers in a respectful manner with appropriate attention to cultural differences.
Establishes and regularly maintains cooperative working relationships with community and health care agencies, as well as professional and administrative staff of the Medical Center and University.
Maintains professional CEU requirements by reading, attending seminars, workshops and conferences.
Master’s degree from a Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) or accredited program with major course work in mental health counseling. Requires NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist or Licensed Clinical Social Worker) or limited permit eligible. If licensure has not been obtained upon employment, the individual has 18 months to obtain the NYS license.
Experience working in clinical setting with children / adolescents and families, including group therapy. Experience with acute services (inpatient, partial hospital, intensive outpatient, crisis services) strongly preferred.
