Medical Lab Technician II

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under supervision of licensed Medical Technologists, this Technician is responsible for the timely and accurate analysis of patient samples, utilizing moderately complex methods. In addition to the MLT II’s normal tasks, he/she is responsible to act as back up to the Clinical Support Tech III whose duties include accessioning, sorting and organizing patient samples for testing; answering phone inquiries; and some clerical duties.
Candidates must be detail oriented, able to work as part of a highly functioning team and possess strong organizational skills. She/he is also responsible for routine maintenance of lab instruments/equipment, routine quality control and adherence to all lab policies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs nucleic acid extractions using multiple technologies as well as manual extractions.
Testing of patient samples using PCR technologies and reporting results of testing via LIS/ instrument interface, as well as manual data entry.
Maintaining laboratory stock of kits/ reagents.
Performing daily/weekly/monthly preventative maintenance on lab equipment.
Strict adherence to quality control and quality assurance protocols.
Adheres to all laboratory safety procedures.
Participates in proficiency testing.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum requirements: Licensed or license eligible as a Clinical Laboratory Technician by New York State
Preferred: AAS in Medical Technology with clinical laboratory experience and NYS license in the Clinical Laboratory Technician category.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 25.77 - $ 36.06 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
