Job Summary: The Technician is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of patient samples, low complexity/automated test analysis and reporting of results for patient samples. He/She is also responsible for instrument maintenance/standardization, daily quality control and adherence to all laboratory policies. Responsibilities:

  • Analyze samples using current laboratory methods/instrumentation

  • Performs quality control and quality assurance protocols

  • Reports results of patient sample analysis using computer/instrument interface options

  • Performs the duties of a Clinical Technologist II as needed

  • Answers telephone inquiries

  • Performs instrument preventative maintenance as scheduled or needed

  • Punctuality and a good attendance.

  • Adherence to all University, Division and Department policies.

  • Professional discretion with confidential patient results.

  • Adherence to all laboratory safety procedures.

  • Participation in continuing education.


Technicians report to the Technical Specialists and Supervisors.Generally works under the guidance of laboratory supervisors or senior technologists, Pathology residents and/or Faculty.

AAS in Medical Technology, Allied Health or a Science BS degree in chemistry, biochemistry or biology with no relevant clinical laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requires NYS Medical Laboratory Technician license or eligible for licensure.

This position will be located at URMC Labs at 77 Ridgeland Road, travel as needed to assist operations at URMC 601 Elmwood Ave.Position hours are to be determined.
