Medical Asst II, Primary Care

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Provides support to clerical and clinical staff in a positive and professional manner. Occasional evening and weekend work is possible.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Verifies demographics/insurance coverage, collects patients' payments and issues receipts while properly logging the info, generates patient encounter forms, communicates effectively via EMR system, schedules appointments, opens and distributes mail, responds to in-coming calls, maintains knowledge of practice to efficiently and effectively answer questions and offer direction to patients, maintains confidentiality per HIPAA regulations, attends staff meetings as required, sends and receives patient records, faxes, copies, and email documents.
Sets up for anticipated provider procedures and examinations, performs vital signs, screenings and tests per provider directions, cleans and maintains exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control, returns patients' calls per direction of provider, performs a variety of technical assignments related to diagnostic testing (use of centrifuge to spin urine, use of accu-easy, etc.) and performs quality controls as required for all point of care (CLIA) testing.
Assures equipment/supplies are available for provider, based on individual provider preference, maximizes room utilization (exam and procedure rooms) through establishing efficient communication systems with other members of the team and through assuring that needed supplies are available, conducts inventory of supplies, requisitions needed supplies from internal and external vendors, tracks utilization for cost trending purposes, makes recommendations regarding opportunities to decrease cost in use of equipment and supplies.
Obtains various specimens, accurately labels, logs and processes specimens, to forward to hospital laboratories, assists providers in obtaining cultures, smears, and stains as directed, assists providers during exams, anticipating individual provider needs and complexity of the patient. Checks and calibrates equipment as determined by type of equipment and network standards. Cleans and prepares instruments to be sent to Sterile Supply, complies with standard HIPAA, OSHA, and Joint Commission regulations.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
2 year college education leading to an Associate's Degree such as Laboratory Sciences or related medical field required. 2 years of recent experience working in a medical facility as a Medical Assistant required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, and venipuncture required.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $17.50 - $22.75 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
