Medical Asst I, Primary Care

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Provides support to clerical and clinical staff in a positive and professional manner. Occasional evening and weekend work is possible.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Verifies demographics/insurance coverage, collects patients' payments and issues receipts while properly logging the information, generates patient encounter forms, communicates effectively via EMR system, schedules appointments, opens and distributes mail, responds to in-coming calls, maintains knowledge of practice to efficiently and effectively answer questions and offer direction to patients, maintains confidentiality per HIPAA regulations, attends staff meetings as required, sends and receives patient records, faxes, copies, and email documents.

  2. Escorts patients to examination rooms, obtains and records vital signs, sets up anticipated provider procedures and examinations, performs screeners and tests per providers direction, sets up equipment and instruments per office protocol, cleans and maintains exam rooms-instruments and equipment between patient visits, returns patients' calls.

  3. Prescription renewal chart documentation entry. Sends RX to providers for authorization. Performs prior authorizations. Enters specific HMP from mail and faxes in chart. Performs back-up clerical duties as needed.

  4. Performs lab functions and quality control/assurance of approved testing and CLIA waive testing as directed, complies with standard HIPAA, OSHA, AND JCAHO regulations.

  5. Ensures accurate coding and billing of patient visits, follows up on missed appointments and cancellations as directed.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 year college education leading to an Associate's Degree such as Laboratory Sciences or related medical field or successful completion and certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program required.

  • 2 years of recent experience working in a medical facility as a Medical Assistant/Patient Care Tech required

  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, and venipuncture required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 17.00 - $ 22.10 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
