Medical and Pediatric Emergency Department at SMH - Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Responsibilities
Provide psychiatric evaluations, interventions and consultations, including obtaining collateral information, in the Medical ED for patients whose primary or significantly secondary reason for being in the Medical ED is psychiatric related but the patient’s initial presentation does not require a CPEP level of care. Phone consultation with CPEP psychiatrist is available and re-triage to CPEP appropriate for patients who are evaluated to likely need psychiatric admission or require further stabilization in a CPEP environment. The NP will also be able to treat and release patients that do not need to be seen by a psychiatrist. The NP will also participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training. Qualifications: ANCC Board Certified as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and at least one year experience as an NP in some kind of an acute psychiatric setting.
Qualifications
Requires a Master's Degree in Nursing or related field and an active New York State license in good standing. Applicants will have 5 years experience as an RN with one to three years of leadership experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The Nurse Practitioner influences the quality and delivery of care in various roles including consultant, researcher, mentor, and practitioner. This role may be unit, program, or service based and is involved in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
