Under the direction of the Chief Supervisor, oversees routine aspects of Quality Assurance (QA) within the Hematology-Chemistry Labs. The Quality Assurance Technical Specialist may assist in the development/monitoring of key indicators, generation of performance reports and identification of opportunities for improvement. The QA Technical Specialist will also act as a liaison with external parties on matters that relate to Quality Assurance. May assist in some supervisory duties, especially on weekends, holidays or in the absence of the supervisor. Performs all duties of a Medical Technologist II, including weekend and holiday rotations consistent with other technical staff work schedules. Beyond mastery of standard laboratory protocol and methods, demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the theory and technical applications and of the clinical relevance of laboratory tests and demonstrates understanding of Quality Assurance in Hematology-Chemistry laboratory.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Reports to Chief Supervisor for QA duties with guidance from directors. When performing MT II duties, reports to appropriate supervisor.
Functions as a supervisor on weekends, holidays and in the absence of supervisors.
- Standard and complex laboratory equipment, office equipment, and computer systems.
Performs all duties of a Medical Technologist II, including weekend and holiday rotations consistent with other technical staff work schedules.
Document and organize all workup information in laboratory approved format for review and sign off by Faculty. For existing procedures/instruments, verify that they are accurate and are reviewed annually by appropriate Supervisor and/or Faculty. Expertise in the laboratory document control system.
May assist with QC duties as applicable
Reviews laboratory reports and, using appropriate quality control protocols, makes decisions Assists in reviewing and writing procedure manuals so that they are up-to-date and functional.
May participate in developing and evaluating new methods and products. Initiates and maintains written and verbal communication with supervisors and directors regarding progress.
Responsible for the data collection, preparation and analysis of laboratory statistics including but not limited to:
Corrected report statistics for all lab areas and follow up accordingly (RL events)
Weekly water cultures
Internal bias testing
Safety officer duties – training (EHS, annual lab) – maintain Chematix inventory
Thermometers (calibrations, NIST, monitoring)
Timers, silica particle water checks
Provides input for coworkers Performance Evaluations.
May train new employees, instruct residents and fellows, MT/MLT students, and other health professionals
May assist with competency assessment of staff.
Effective interpersonal skills, and maintains a friendly and courteous professional manner at all times.
Excellent Communication, word processing and computer skills are essential.
Is able to prioritize and maintain focus while performing multiple tasks.

Adherence to all laboratory safety procedures.
Must be NYS licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Bachelor's degree in MT or related discipline and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in MT or related discipline and 3 years of relevant experience.
