Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The NYS License Eligible Medical Technologist accurately performs, interprets and documents moderate to highly complex technical procedures per training and protocol guidelines. These duties include but are not limited to: specimen identification and accessioning in the Laboratory Information System, documentation of work; quality control and preventative maintenance of equipment; gram stains, rapid EIA, direct molecular methods for bacterial and viral targets; read culture plates and perform susceptibility testing, reporting test results to patient-care providers, positive blood culture notification/work-up; maintain lab supply of kits/reagents and may also participate in proficiency testing and training of technologists. The technologist must be detail oriented and organize work to meet expected throughput while performing analytical duties under the supervision of a NYS Licensed Medical Technologist. The NYS License Eligible Medical Technologist maintains job competence through in –house and other available continuing education.

Job Duties:
Accurately performs and interpret routine clinical laboratory tests, procedures and techniques as assigned by the area supervisor or designee. (65%)
Functions in technical support roles as needed: checking patient computer files, prioritizing and triaging work, answering phones, and other miscellaneous tasks. (10%)
Prepares reagents as instructed; restocks bench supplies; follows proper storage and sampling requirements; and troubleshoots and resolves problem specimens. (10%)
Performs daily, weekly, monthly and annual quality control as instructed and follows the preventative maintenance protocols when applicable. and other specialized tests. (5%))
Cleans general lab areas, answers phones, and rotated through other laboratory stations as needed when available. (3%)
Maintains continuing education and competencies as directed. (2%)
Participate in other duties as assigned (5%)
Additional Requirements:

Relationships/Authorities:
Reports directly to the assistant supervisor of the shift or designee.
Works under the supervision of a NYS Licensed Medical Technologist.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or a Graduate Advanced Certificate in Clinical/Medical Technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired:
ASCP certification
Must be license eligible to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of New York.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $27.16 - $35.31 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
