Laboratory Technician III (S)
Work daily on several federally funded pediatric research studies and other department funded Pediatric research studies. Participate in the follow-up of former preterm and full term children and their caregivers. Assist senior coordinator and study nurse in the following tasks: Explain studies in detail, use own judgment to answer participant questions, obtain informed consent, conduct in-person and telephone interviews, collect growth measurements (including bioimpedence scale), and complete medical record reviews. Maintain study documentation and databases, as well as enter, organize, and verify study data. Will help lab process lung tissue including assisting with preparing tissue for histology and cell dissociation. Help with sample inventories and data entry. Processing and inventorying of clinical samples. Will communicate with and travel to study participants’ homes. Demonstrates ICARE* values in each of the major responsibilities.
Conduct subject enrollment for the research studies. Travel to appropriate sites for subject recruitment, including homes, emergency departments, and schools. Explain study in detail and answers all participants’ questions. Obtain written informed consent from caregivers and verbal assent from children. Conduct interviews and administers surveys to participants. Collect growth measurements. Work with children to assure comfort with and accuracy of data collection. Maintain subject documentation, including memorandums and letters. Provide enrollment updates to Senior Health Project Coordinator weekly.
Data collection, data entry, and data maintenance. Collect data from interviews and other sources from research studies. Verify study related information and review subject records to ensure complete and accurate data. Enter data into database. Run simple reports from database.
Perform additional research duties as assigned by Senior Health Project Coordinator and Lab Manager including; data cleaning, organization and maintenance of study regulatory documents, general office duties, etc.
Checking on Study Samples screening them and communicating with the Lab Personnel about them as well as making and stocking the sample kits for these samples.
Helping with Sample Processing as needed.
Associate’s degree in appropriate discipline Prefer a college degree, or degree in process, in biomedical science required.
plus 2-3 years specialized experience in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Must be flexible, empathetic, and able to engage effectively with diverse populations. Demonstrate efficiency in prioritizing assignments, as well as skill in proactively and independently resolving problems in the field, and recommending/implementing continuous quality improvements. Possess good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
