Laboratory Technician III (S)

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Lab Tech to work in a life science laboratory, to conduct translational research. The individual should be familiar with basic aseptic operations, cell culture, and general molecular biology techniques. The position will require some background in cell and molecular biology.
SUPERVISION:
This individual will conduct experiments, working with daily supervision from the Project Director or other senior scientist.
EQUIPMENT USED:
The equipments to be used include biosafety cabinet, light-, inverted light microscope, centrifuges, cell culture equipment and freezers (-20, -80, LN2). Use of other equipment may also be required, in which case special training will be provided.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Following required and necessary training will assist animal breeding, ID, weaning. (15%)
Mouse breeding handling and experimentation. (10%)
Genotyping: collect mousetail run PCR and DNA gel. Individual will work independently after initial training. (25%)
Perform analyses of protein and gene expression, using techniques that may include PCR amplification, RT-PCR amplification (for analysis of RNA) and immunocytochemistry and immunoblot analyses (for analysis of protein) (25%)
Responsible for computer databases, spreadsheets, and protocol; perform graphical and statistical analyses. Keep accurate records of breeding and genotyping results. (15%)
Cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipments and labs. (10%)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree and prior research experience is preferred.
