8 AM-4:30 PM; OCC WKENDS
A Laboratory Technician III is needed for study of the genetic code, in particular the mechanisms by which particular combinations of codons inhibit translation and the biological functions of this regulation.
For an overview of projects in the laboratory, please see: https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/labs/grayhack.aspx
Execute experiments in research projects using a number of genetic and molecular biology methods including plasmid and strain construction, genetic selections, mRNA analysis, E. coli and yeast transformation, analysis of protein expression by antibody probing, and analysis of yeast growth.
Generate yeast strains (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) bearing mutations in defined genes or expressing variant tRNA species using standard genetic and molecular biology methods.
Perform experiments involving construction of GFP or RFP variants for expression in two different yeasts (Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida albicans) using standard molecular biology techniques, E. coli and yeast transformations, followed by analysis with flow cytometry or FACS separation of cells.
Occasionally assist other lab members with experiments.
Help generate and maintain large strain and plasmid collections associated with projects and the lab.
Maintain laboratory equipment items and initiate necessary work orders for repairs. Order routine lab supplies. Maintain lab safety records, perform and document lab safety inspections surveys.
