This is a technical position within the Center for Musculoskeletal Research (CMSR) Histology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Imaging (HBMI) Core requiring strong computer skills, preferably with basic laboratory experience and interest in histology, microscopy, and image analysis. The job consists of technical laboratory work related to histomorphometric analysis and assistance in the preparation, processing, sectioning, and staining of preserved animal and human musculoskeletal tissues for research purposes. This position requires basic research skills along with strong organization, communication, and computer skills. Hours of the position are 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday (flexible).
Operate Visiopharm automated histomorphometry software, develop new analysis algorithms, and support the CMSR investigators in automated and semi-automated image analysis on multiple computer platforms. (15%)
Performing basic maintenance, troubleshooting tasks, and coordinating training in the HBMI Core including maintenance of the Olympus VS120 Whole Slide Imaging system and Visiopharm automated histomorphometry software, the OsteoMeasure manual histomorphometry system, and all fluorescence and brightfield microscopes and associated computers. (20%)
Preparation of tissue specimens including: fixation, decalcification, processing (automated paraffin), embedding (paraffin and frozen), and sectioning (paraffin, decalcified, and undecalcified plastic-embedded, and frozen). (20%)
Perform routine and special stains on frozen and paraffin sections. (20%)
Maintain records of Investigator use and prepare invoices for monthly billing in HBMI Core. Managing the scheduling and imaging sessions at Olympus VS120 Whole Slide Imaging system and Visiopharm automated histomorphometry software. (10%)
Interface with the Loiselle Lab to provide consultation on spatial transcriptomics technology. (15%)
Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline preferably with computer or data science background plus 1-3 years specialized experience in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
