POSITION SUMMARY:Under general supervision and with some latitude for exercising independent technical judgment, is responsible for carrying out research procedures related to tissue culture, isolation of primary human and mouse B cells, mouse vaccination, ELISA, ELISPOT, and western blotting. Also responsible for performing molecular techniques including protein purification, DNA cloning, DNA and RNA extraction, insect cell culture, and performing Luminex assays testing human and rodent sera. Additional work with rodent colonies, including vaccination, intranasal influenza infection, blood harvesting, euthanasia, organ dissection and primary B and T cell isolation and culture. Ability to perform and co-ordinate multiple tasks on a daily basis. Will ensure maintenance of laboratory supplies, equipment and proper disposal of all materials.TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Performing experimental protocols relating to the processing, and experimental treatment of cells from human peripheral blood and mouse tissues, isolation of cellular subsets and culturing of primary cells. Maintenance of human cell-lines in tissue culture and performing ELISA, ELISpot and chemotaxis assays. 40%

  • Performing intricate and complex chemical assays and bioassays involving protein expression and purification, DNA cloning, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, Luminex assay, and insect cell culture and western blotting. 20%

  • Performing mouse immunizations/infections, sera collection, euthanasia and spleen/lymph node harvesting and processing. 10%

  • Documenting experiment protocols, collecting and analyzing scientific data using computerized software, including uploading experimental data to the laboratory database and server for further analysis and dissection. 10%

  • Preparing charts, graphs, and tables in preparation for publication. Presenting experimental results at laboratory meetings and local gatherings. 10%

  • Operating and maintaining complex experimental equipment including Luminex reader, ELISA reader, spectrophotometer, PCR machines, and the like. 5%

  • Maintaining an accurate inventory of laboratory supplies, chemicals and reagents. 5%


  • Associate’s Degree science required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • 2-3 years or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Experience with tissue culture desirable. Computer skills with Excel and Adobe graphics software, and/or bioinformatics experience also desirable preferred.
