The position is to join a dynamic and very busy research clinic with multiple contracts with the NIH and pharmaceutical companies. Studies currently being conducted include studies of COVID19 and HIV/AIDS, phase 1-3 vaccine studies, studies in therapeutic agents in adult populations. Applicants should be able to work with research subjects under general direction and with latitude for independent judgment assume full responsibility for various clinical projects as outlined below. DUTIES:
Study Participant Recruitment: Assists Clinic Coordinator and team with screening, consenting and enrolling study participants into studies of varying complexity. Conducts participant screening for clinical trials as assigned and maintains accurate screening and recruitment logs. Speak with eligible patients to assess interest and qualification for participation. Explain study and obtain informed consent and assent. Operates computer and/or peripheral equipment; assists in preparing programs and databases related to subject recruitment.
Study Preparation: Prepares, organizes and maintains study charts (i.e. filing flowsheets and other visit documents). Assists with clinical database creation in REDCAP and other platforms and general maintenance.
Performance of Study Visits: Schedules and assists research nurse in conducting study visits to ensure patient compliance with clinical trial. Conducts research interviews and compiles data for studies involving human subjects.
Specimen Management: Coordinate collection and storage of study specimens; ensure proper labeling and tracking. Process blood and compartment samples according to lab SOPs and study protocols. Label and manage storage of study specimens kept on site. Ship diagnostic specimens according to IATA regulations. Prepare and run appropriate controls for cell counter. Maintain laboratory equipment. Maintain supplies and reagents used by all technicians in the laboratory. Place orders as needed using a standard order blank.
Data Entry: Collects, enters, and maintains study-related information in case report forms and electronic databases and reviews subject records to ensure complete and accurate data and concurrence between the data collection tools and electronic case report forms. Enter blood and compartmental samples into the laboratory database, complete chain of custody documentation.
All other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of experience in appropriate human subject research coordination or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates should demonstrate flexibility and be comfortable and familiar with human subject interactions.
Knowledge of word processing and data analysis software preferred.
Strong attention to detail, interpersonal, and communication skills both verbal and written.
Phlebotomy and prior lab/research experience desirable.
