Laboratory Technician III, Neuroscience

POSITION SUMMARY:
The lab is focused on the study of neuronal mechanisms of cognitive functions in humans and animals. During experiments, we examine behavioral performance, eye position (using eye tracking), and either non-invasively record from humans (using electroencephalography) or invasively record from animals, during complex behavioral tasks. We also use optogenetics to causally influence neural activity in animals.
The responsibilities of the technician include data collection from human subjects, as well as behavioral training and testing of animals. The technician will also be asked to histologically process brain tissue. The work requires extensive training and the ability to simultaneously handle multiple tasks. The technician also performs other duties associated with data collection, including preliminary analysis of the recorded neuronal activity using complex software (offline sorting) as well as recording and organizing the behavioral and physiological data in preparation for further analysis. The technician will also have the opportunity to learn advanced signal-processing approaches. This is a good position for a recent college graduate who is looking to gain some research experience before applying to graduate school.
The technician needs to have strong organizational skills since the work also involves the management of many aspects of the lab, including animal care, ordering supplies, and interacting with the veterinary staff and other support personnel.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Data collection from human subjects.
Behavioral training, testing, and physiological recordings from animals.
Conducts data analysis and keeps accurate data records.
Histological processing of brain tissue.
Orders recording electrodes, other supplies and equipment, keeps inventory up to date.
Maintains the order and cleanliness of the lab.
Other projects and job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree in appropriate discipline required
Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience or related field preferred preferred
2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Ability to work with animals; prior experience working with animals preferred.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain a well-organized laboratory preferred.
Competence with computer software and hardware.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $16.49 - $23.08
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
