Performs research laboratory assignments, various and diversified in nature, in accordance with standard practices and procedures. This position requires animal experiments, and cell culture work. The individual will help with setting up for experiments and perform said experiments maintaining all necessary records for publication. As needed, the individual will also assist in data collection for publication and grant applications.
Responsibilities include but not limited to most or all of the following, as well as other related duties:
Data Collection: Imaging recordings of cultured human and rodent brain cell.
Data collection: Prepare tissue and cells for histological analysis and imaging.
Data Collection: Schedule and perform behavioral studies on aging mice.
Maintain accurate records. Collect data and prepare graphics and reports for PI.
Data Collection: Perform experiments, including brain injections, dissection and tissue isolation.
Prepare various buffers, solutions, or antibodies for lab use. Demonstrate ability to follow detailed instructions.
Manage day-to-day elements of animal colony maintenance. Demonstrate ability to communicate details of animal colony status to PI. Participate in experimental design through discussion with PI. Present results of experiments internally and externally. Attend journal club and lab meeting.
Other job duties as assigned.
Associate's degree in appropriate discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to perform molecular and histological techniques under supervision
Attention to detail from established protocols or lab manager instructions
Attention to all safety issues in the lab
Ability to handle small lab animals (mice), and cell in culture
Ability to interact appropriately with other laboratory personnel
Ability to perform microinjections and recording/imaging experiments initially with supervisor guidance and then independently.
