Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Research Assistant will collect psychological research data on a federally funded research investigation. Study participants are children between the ages of 3 and 7 years old and their mothers and fathers. The current study will examine how and why different types of interparental conflict are associated with children’s mental health outcomes by exploring children’s social and emotional skills and physiological functioning.

Research Assistant will:

  • Conduct a variety of assessments (both in-home and Center-based) with children and parents, including: observational paradigms, semi-structured and clinical interviews, survey administration, eye tracking and attention measures of their processing of emotions, and physiological functioning (e.g., cardiovascular and salivary stress indicators).

  • Contact participants and schedule visits, facilitate transportation; maintain good relations with participant families and address any questions or concerns.

  • Track and manage data. Maintain project spreadsheets indicating what data has been obtained and when; back-up data files, run analyses and prepare reports on recruitment and enrollment.

  • The position requires accuracy and attention to detail. Applicants must demonstrate strong interpersonal, oral communication, and writing skills. Familiarity and comfort with Excel, ACCESS, Qualtrics, and other databases (e.g., SPSS) are preferred.

General Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the recruitment of participants for the study – 10%

  • Contact potential participants and explain participation in current study –10% Conduct research sessions with children and their mothers – 60%

  • Enter research information into database – 20% All other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

BA or BS in psychology and/or child development and experience with research; a clean, valid driver’s license and own reliable transportation; and flexible scheduling and some weekends are all required.
