Technical Slide Coordinator will organize, sort, verify patient demographic labeling, perform data input into LIS system and distribute slides as directed in accordance to departmental expectation for patient diagnoses.
Supervision and Direction Received:
Under the direction of the Histology Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor and Lead Technologist or designee.
Instrumentation and Equipment:
Microwave, Gemini stainer, automatic cover slipper, embedding center, chemical reagents, glassware, measuring devices, computer equipment and other equipment similar in scope and complexity.
Must be able to stand and sit for long periods. Repetitive twisting, bending pushing and lift 25 lbs. and follows all Universal precautions for blood borne pathogens and chemical usage.
Typical Assignments and responsibilities: (Essential)
Pick up, triage and dry slides in preparation for staining.
Load slides onto Gemini and consul units.
Retrieve paperwork from office. Review and attach photos.
Organize and triage slides into trays while verifying patient demographics and tissue summary prior to LIS sign out. Assign cases to appropriate work groups. Effectively communicate between shifts the status of the slide distribution
Assist with the record keeping of slides in the LIS system.
Assist with maintaining solution rotations for staining and processing equipment. Maintain a stock and organized work space.
Organize, retrieve, back file and consolidate tissue block files.
Other duties as assigned.
Identify and communicate discrepancies identified during slide organization with paperwork.
Ability to pay close attention to details and multi-task during frequent interruptions.
Work well in team environment.
Ability to maintain an organized flow of work both numerically and alphabetically.
Ability to answers phones and triage effectively following Strong Commitment guidelines.
Manage time effectively to meet departmental expectations for timely slide distribution for diagnosis.
Function effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
Qualifications:Requires a High school education with course work in Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, and basic medical terminology or AAS in an equivalent science field.
