POSITION SUMMARY:Tests, troubleshoots, regulates and repairs a variety of HVAC equipment, including but not limited to water systems, ventilation systems, heat pump systems, return air and supply systems; installation of air and water monitoring equipment and devices. Performs work in compliance with all applicable codes and standards. SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:Under immediate supervision of the shop's assistant supervisor or other departmental supervision.SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:May guide, direct, and assist in training lower classified trades personnel. MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:Voltage meters, circuit testers, amp meters, mechanics' hand tools, pneumatic gauges, air flow measuring devices, water flow measuring devices. TYPICAL DUTIES:
Evaluates present space conditions against system performance and design, and makes recommendations for redesign.
Tests, calculates, and balances air, chilled water, hot water, open and closed loop systems.
Checks electrical, electronic, and pneumatic controls particular to air-conditioning and hydronic equipment to make necessary recommendations for repair or replacement.
Disassembles, inspects, and examines system components such as receiver controls, electric, pneumatic controls, dampers, and valves to detect mechanical, electrical, electronic, and pneumatic malfunctions and makes recommendations for repairs or replacements.
Makes adjustments to dampers and valves necessary for proper balance of air, chilled water, hot water, open and closed loop systems.
Performs installation of balancing equipment such as dampers, valves, sensors, etc., as outlined by engineer using blueprints, sketches, specifications, and manufacturers' recommendations.
Diagnoses and calibrates air and water flow equipment and monitoring devices.
Works from blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and from verbal instructions.
Maintains records and makes detailed reports of daily work.
Complies with safety regulations of the University and local state and federal agencies.
Maintains cleanliness of work area and insures that tools and equipment are kept in good working order.
Performs other duties requiring comparable skills and responsibilities as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma and 4-6 years experience in building heating, ventilation, cooling, and controls; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceHow To Apply
