The Clinical Research Pharmacist will be responsible for insuring compliance with all applicable state and federal regulation, licensing requirements, and professional standards pertaining to storage, inventory control, dispensing, and distribution of investigational drugs. Dispensing duties include purchasing/ordering of study-related materials, patient randomization, dose preparation, prescription/order processing, dispensing to clinics/patient care units, and maintenance of regulatory forms. Provides supervision of Investigational Drug Service staff technicians in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Provides input and direction for the development and implementation of new programs and services. Reports directly to the Supervisor of the Investigational Drug Service for Strong Health System.
Provides training of Investigational Drug Service staff.
Recommends action on appointments and other related personnel issues.
Provides direction to individual staff members for staff development through personal instruction.
Provides support in Investigational Drug Service budget development.
Provides support in purchasing and inventory control of pharmaceuticals and supplies needed for investigational drug studies.
Provides support in the Investigational Drug Service monthly billing process.
Identifies needs within Strong Memorial Hospital for improvement and expansion in providing investigational pharmacy services consistent with Strong health System mission as well as the profession of pharmacy.
Participates in the investigation and follow-up of patient/customer satisfaction concerns.
Accessible to Medical Center staff to address investigational pharmacy related operational issues.
Work collaboratively with the Supervisor if the Investigational Drug Service to develop clinically focused activities.
Prepare written dispensing instructions for staff pharmacists and nurses.
Prepare written communication for sponsors and NIH as required.
Work collaboratively with the Associate Director of Operations and Inpatient Operations Manager to incorporate dispensing of investigational drugs into normal Department of Pharmacy procedures.
Responsible for the accuracy of the Investigational Drug Service’s regulatory files for each study.
Participates in study visits/audits with sponsor representatives.
Review protocols and coordinates dispensing functions.
Provides direct supervision of Investigational Drug Service technicians.
Randomize patients to treatment assignments or checks randomization by Investigational Drug service technicians as required.
Inservice pharmacy and nursing staffs regarding appropriate use and dispensing procedures for investigational drugs.
Participate in Departmental clinical projects (possible examples include rounding on patient care units, ADR reporting, Clinitrend).
Participate in patient screening for active inpatient studies.
Educate staff pharmacists on screening procedures for inpatient studies relating to their practice specialties.
Provide support for the Residency program via an Investigational Drug Service rotation.
Requires a BS, or Doctorate, degree in pharmacy.
Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in hospital pharmacy.
Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a pharmacist in New York State.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
