Position Summary:

The University of Rochester Department of Family Medicine is now accepting applications for its one-year, instructor position in the Surgical Track of the Maternal Child Health Fellowship. Our program provides one of the more robust OB experiences in the Northeast for our 12-12-12 residency program. Highland Hospital delivers approximately 3000 babies per year and has historically had an impressively low 20% Cesarean rate. Our longstanding Surgical Obstetrics fellowship is expanding from 2 to 4 fellows per year with a new emphasis on training physicians for rural practice funded by our recent HRSA grant.

This one-year faculty appointment is designed to train Family Medicine physicians in high risk/surgical obstetrics and management of common newborn conditions. You will be trained in cesarean sections, postpartum tubal ligations, obstetric ultrasound, newborn resuscitation and stabilization, care of newborns in the Special Care Nursery, rural health care and care of high-risk obstetrical conditions.

Your responsibilities, which will be based at Highland Hospital, will include:

  • Working on the labor deck; this will include daytime shifts, overnight shifts, weekends and holidays pursuant to a schedule that distributes these responsibilities equitably among the Family Medicine Fellows and the Obstetrics and Gynecology residents

  • Office-based care at the Family Medicine Center

  • 1-2 months of rural rotation based at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, NY

  • Elective time

Your participation in the fellowship is contingent upon your appointment to the medical staff at Highland Hospital with the necessary clinical privileges, your appointment as an Instructor in Family Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center, which are subject to approval of the Dean.
