Humanities Librarian

Responsibilities
General Purpose:
The Humanities Librarian (Visual and Performing Arts) is responsible for leading and implementing programs and services that support the full lifecycle of research, creative expression, and learning for faculty and students in Art & Art History, Music, Dance & Movement, Film & Media Studies, Theater, and the Visual & Cultural Studies Graduate Program.
Responsibilities will include but are not exclusive to: understanding, anticipating, and fulfilling the research and learning needs of assigned departments and communities; communicating key information about the library and its services; planning and delivery of (typically) one-shot instructional sessions; holding individual and group research consultations; monitoring chat and e-mail reference questions; supporting the Humanities Librarians Team in collection development efforts; and collaborating toward academic engagement events and activities like workshops, pop up presentations/performances, and collection highlights or student art exhibits. As a contributing member of the liaison librarian group, the incumbent will attend meetings and contribute to projects that advance the River Campus Libraries’ (RCL) teaching, learning, and research strategies. This librarian will also work closely with the Patron Services Staff who manage services within the physical space of the Art & Music Library.
Responsibilites:
Plan and develop materials to support research and teaching
Work with instructors to create course specific learning and research support materials
Plan and develop workshops and events
Create multimodal information resources and asynchronous learning activities
Maintain LibGuides and contribute to relevant content for RCL’s website
Deliver information, digital, and data literacy skill building through course integration, targeted programming, and events
Work with instructors in designated subjects to deliver high-impact instruction
Collaborate to offer workshops and programming that support students’ and faculty’s learning and research needs, in alignment with RCL’s learning and research support strategies. Possible topics might include open educational resources, open pedagogy, digital scholarship tools and methodologies, or humanities-based data management
Formulate programming for Rush Rhees Library
Leverage research expertise to support scholarship through consultations with researchers (e.g., students, faculty, community members, etc.)
Offer regular consultations for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty for research support including resource discovery, citation practices, humanities-based data management, data analysis, open access, and research impact
Support specialized research through consultations related to data management, data analysis, open access, and research impact
Participate in on-call schedule to support virtual reference
Cultivate high quality collections
Manage collection development funds for assigned areas
Collaborate with Humanities, Social Sciences librarians, and Scholarly Resources & Curation team to develop high quality and diverse digital and print collections, including books, journals, artists’ books, films, databases, streaming video, video games and video game consoles
Participate in collection assessment activities to responsibly allocate funds and respond to evolving needs from students and faculty
Work closely with library staff to develop procedures for handling Art & Music Library materials
Establish and maintain relationships and strong communication channels with designated departments
Communicate and translate key information about the library and its services with assigned departments
Engage in targeted outreach, which could include attending departmental events, holding departmental office hours, and regularly meeting with faculty and students to identify information needs
Conduct orientation sessions and tours for students and faculty in designated departments
Miscellaneous Duties
Participate and lead in RCL-wide initiatives that advance the library’s mission toward customer service, research, learning, and collections
Coordinate with the Director of Service Strategies and Patron Services Staff who manage of the physical space and information desk for Art and Music Library.
Maintain professional collaborations with River Campus Libraries colleagues and other campus constituencies
Contribute to the profession through active participation in conferences, associations, research, writing, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education:
Post-graduate degree in library and information science from an A.L.A.-accredited institution
Degree or coursework in one or more fields related to this position (preferred)
Experience or familiarity with research and instruction in an academic library setting
Experience developing and cultivating relationships and partnerships
Experience collaborating across disciplines/fields (preferred)
Experience delivering high-impact initiatives and programs (preferred)
Facilitation, training, or teaching experience (preferred)
Knowledge
Cultural competency, recognizing users as unique individuals with personalized experiences
Ability to remain current in best practices related to student success in higher education
Knowledge of scholarly publishing and the library's role within this landscape (preferred)
Familiarity with ACRL’s information literacy framework (preferred)
Working knowledge of digital tools and methodologies that enhance the researcher/learner experience (preferred)

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 53,500 - $ 74,900 Annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
